Main Street Fort Pierce honored

Main Street Fort Pierce has been recognized in Florida for the way it's been able to resurrect the historic downtown area. Secretary of State Cord Byrd announced that Main Street Fort Pierce in St. Lucie County was designated the September 2023 Florida Main Street Program of the Month.

"It is my honor to acknowledge Main Street Fort Pierce as the Florida Main Street Program of the Month," Secretary Byrd said. "Having been a part of the Florida Main Street program for 35 years, Main Street Fort Pierce continues to set a wonderful standard not only for communities in the southeast region, but for communities across the state."

Main Street Fort Pierce executive director Doris Tillman said this is very important to them because they worked so hard. "It's a big honor, and the Secretary of the State is a strong supporter of the Main Street Program," Tillman said.

Brooke Harris is on the Secretary of the Main Street Fort Pierce Board of Directors and is also honored. “I think it starts to put it more on the map," Harris said. "It's going to bring more people here, and we need as many people to know about Main Street as possible."

The goal of the Main Street program is to revitalize the downtown area while encouraging economic development and retaining the community's traditional and historic character. Tillman said that Main Street Fort Pierce has made so much progress, and she thanks their community partners.
