House of Hope’s 2022 Top Chef Competition

House of Hope’s 2022 Top Chef Competition

(Left to Right) Ed Ciampi, Craig Ahal and Rob Ranieri celebrating the Best Dish award from Top Chef 2019.

Six local people who love food, love to cook, and love the mission of House of Hope will compete on Monday, June 6, for bragging rights to be called the Top Chef of Martin County.

The fourth annual Top Chef competition will be held this year from 7 to 10 p.m. at The District Table and Bar in Stuart. Contenders will learn which protein they’ll be working with a week in advance, but what ingredients are on hand and what the “Special Surprise Ingredient” is for 2022 will be a secret until the competition begins. Some of the ingredients will come straight from House of Hope’s Growing Hope Farm.

During the event, 11 local restaurants will be serving small bites to attendees to stave off their hunger as they watch the chefs prepare their delicious dishes.

“This is a really fun and lively event,” said House of Hope Chief Executive Officer Rob Ranieri. “Our volunteer chefs, none of whom are actually professional chefs, always surprise and impress us with the dishes they prepare.”

The event also has a serious side. House of Hope is seeing an ever-increasing number of Martin County residents who are food insecure and need the services of the organization to feed their families. Funds raised from this fun, food event will go directly to feeding hungry neighbors.

The 2022 competitors are: Donna Forcella, Donna Jenson, Julian Maiucci, Pete Morello, Marybeth Peña, and Joe Tomasiello. Judges will award prizes to the Top Fundraiser and the Best Dish, with the Overall Winner prize going to the chef who excels in a combination of both categories.

Sponsorship support from the following people and organizations is appreciated: Colab Farms, Whiticar Boatworks, Coastal Drive Magazine, The Firefly Group, Florida Power and Light, HBKS Stephen Schramm, Elaine and Jim Matts, McCarthy Summers Law Firm, Rick Carroll Insurance, and the Wong Family Foundation.

Only 200 tickets are available, and tickets from the 2020 event are being honored, so space is limited. To purchase tickets, become a sponsor, or support a favorite chef, go to www.hohmartin.org.

Pulte Announces New Community in Martin County, Highpointe

Pulte Homes is continuing its push into Martin County, announcing a new 284-single-family community called Highpointe on 321 acres acquired from Christ Fellowship Church. Pulte will donate a portion of the land to Operation 300, a local nonprofit that supports the families of fallen military personnel.

Highpointe is located on the east side of Pratt Whitney Road, approximately two miles north of SW Bridge Road in Stuart. It is 10 miles from downtown Stuart and about a 15-minute drive from Jupiter.

The gated community will feature consumer-inspired homes with open-concept floor plans, flexible living spaces, gourmet kitchens and large outdoor living spaces.  Home sizes will range between 1,850 to 3,820 square feet with prices starting from the $500s.

Owners will have access to a robust amenities package including a state-of-the art clubhouse, fitness center, resort-style pool and sports courts.

As a company that prides itself of giving back to the community, Pulte will donate 20 acres of land to Operation 300, a nonprofit organization that operates outdoor camps and provides mentorship for children of fallen service members.

“We are very excited about our newest project in Martin County,” said Brent Baker, president of PulteGroup’s southeast region. “Not only are we addressing a housing shortage in the area, but we also have the privilege of helping children who lost a parent serving our country in the name of freedom.”

Pulte recently started land development.  Interested buyers can visit pulte.com/highpointe or call 772-208-6939 to sign up for Highpointe’s VIP list to receive updates and more information.

2022 award winners announced during celebration of Environmental Stewardship in Martin County

2022 award winners announced during celebration of Environmental Stewardship in Martin County

Zoe Glover and Asher Glover representing River Kidz.

More than 40 nominees including youth groups, individuals, businesses, government agencies and nonprofit organizations, were honored at the 2022 Keep Martin Beautiful Environmental Stewardship Awards ceremony on April 28 at the beautiful oceanfront clubhouse at Sailfish Point Country Club. An enthusiastic and diverse crowd of more than 200 guests attended the event to recognize the nominees’ outstanding efforts in community beautification and revitalization, litter and marine debris removal, recycling and other environmental initiatives. Serving as the organization’s key fundraiser, the event raised more than $40,000 to support its mission to improve and enhance the quality of life in Martin County.

“Each year we continue to be impressed by the creative and impactful ways our nominees show their commitment to and stewardship of our natural environment,” said Craig Ahal, president of Keep Martin Beautiful. “Their projects and initiatives give us great hope for the future of Martin County and our planet.”

Guests enjoyed a lively cocktail hour and passed hors d’oeuvres while engaging in a friendly bidding competition for silent auction items focused on the environment, including an array of nature-themed paintings from local artists and a signed Guy Harvey print.

Fifteen awards were presented during the event. Highlights included the Youth Group Champion award, which was presented to the River Kidz. Created in 2011 by two 10-year-olds, today this group is made up of more than 500 students in Martin County. They participate in numerous environmental activities from creating a workbook that’s now in its fifth edition as part of Martin County School District’s curriculum to lobbying at the local and state level against potentially harmful issues that affect our waterways. The Community Enrichment Award was presented to the Jensen Beach Garden Club for the gardens they create and care for throughout Jensen Beach and Rio.

Two dozen sponsors provided financial and in-kind support, for which the organization is grateful: Presenting Sponsor, Sailfish Point Country Club; Champion Sponsors, Sunrise Grove Commerce Center and Three Lakes; Steward Sponsors, Martin County Board of County Commissioners District Five Edward V. Ciampi and Waste Management; Sustainer Sponsors, AHS Residential, FPL, Meritage Homes, and van Vonno Consulting; and Supporter Sponsors, Bonnie Landry & Associates, Camo Farms, Captec Engineering, Circular Recycling, City of Stuart, ColorLength, Ecological Associates, Fred Astaire Dance Studio, Goldasich Environmental, Illustrated Properties, Jenkins Landscape, Lucido & Associates, Manatee Pocket Yacht Sales, The Mil-Cor Group; The Pulte Group, Shearwater Marine, the Stull-Wise Family, Treasure Coast Urgent Care; Program Partners, Crown Trophies, The Firefly Group and Steven Martine Photography.

President of Cleveland Clinic Martin Health joins Boys & Girls Clubs of Martin County Board of Directors

President of Cleveland Clinic Martin Health joins Boys & Girls Clubs of Martin County Board of Directors

Boys & Girls Clubs of Martin County welcomes Rishi P. Singh, MD, to its Board of Directors. President of Cleveland Clinic Martin Health, North and South Hospitals, staff surgeon at the Cole Eye Institute, and professor of ophthalmology at Lerner College of Medicine in Cleveland, Dr. Singh is a towering figure in medicine and highly regarded for his many achievements inside and outside of the operating room.

“Dr. Singh is an extraordinarily gifted, and successful individual and we’re incredibly excited to welcome him to our board of directors,” says Keith “Fletch” Fletcher, CEO of BGCMC. “Already dedicated to the Boys & Girls Clubs movement from his involvement in Cleveland, he’ll find himself in good company among many other diverse and vastly accomplished fellow board members such as incoming Board Chair Kathryn Parsons and Diana Brooks, Immediate Past Board Chair, both of whom have made—and continue to make—an immeasurable difference in the lives of thousands of Martin County children.”

Ellen Libby Ph.D. also joins the Board. Dr. Libby, an author, lecturer, and psychotherapist with more than 35 years of experience has devoted her professional life to the social and emotional well-being of individuals and families. Other transitions include the advancement of Kathryn Parsons to Board Chair, and Diana Brooks will now be Immediate Past Board Chair following years of service distinguished by record-setting fundraising for the organization despite challenges and interruptions caused by the pandemic and launching Building Great Futures- an exciting and comprehensive campaign for the youth of Martin County.

“So many of the children we serve are still enduring tremendous hardships due to various circumstances, including the pandemic,” adds Fletcher. “We should all feel very blessed that our Club members have in their corner such highly successful, respected, and generous leaders committed to ensuring the children get the encouragement, care, and opportunities they so deserve and dream of.”

Henry Saxon, regional service director of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, notes key qualities in the leaders on the Martin County chapter board of directors that exceed even their most celebrated professional achievements. “It’s not just about their resumes; it’s about their character,” Saxon says. “These people could be doing just anything, yet they are dedicating their time and effort to serving children in need of safety, patience, acceptance, knowledge, and opportunity. Drs. Libby and Singh will fit in well and we look forward to what they will accomplish together next.”

Florida SBDC Network, FloridaMakes Announce Partnership to Aid State’s Small Manufacturers

Florida SBDC Network, FloridaMakes announce partnership to aid state's small manufacturers

L-R: Greg Britton, state director of the Florida SBDC Network, and Kevin Carr, CEO of FloridaMakes, with the MOU

The Florida Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network and FloridaMakes have formalized a strategic partnership to support Florida’s small manufacturers.

The partnership will provide greater access to and awareness of Florida SBDC Network and FloridaMakes training and resources for small manufacturers in Florida. The agreement will foster greater communication, cross-referrals, understanding of each other’s services, and collaboration on training and programs for small manufacturers across the state.

"FloridaMakes’ long commitment to strengthen and advance Florida’s economy by improving the productivity and technological performance of small manufacturers compliments our mission of ensuring our state’s small businesses have the expertise and resources to succeed,” said Greg Britton, state director of the Florida SBDC Network. “We look forward to partnering with FloridaMakes to help more of our state’s small manufacturers grow and create more jobs for Florida’s families.”

FloridaMakes is a statewide, industry-led, public-private partnership operated by an alliance of Florida's regional manufacturers associations with the sole mission of strengthening and advancing Florida’s economy by improving the competitiveness, productivity and technological performance of its manufacturing sector, with an emphasis on small- and medium-sized firms.

"Florida is home to over 23,000 manufacturers, of which about 80 percent have 20 or less employees," said Kevin Carr, Chief Executive Officer of FloridaMakes. "This partnership will allow us to expand the breadth of services we offer the industry in order to help grow and retain small manufacturers in Florida."

Through this agreement, Florida’s Regional Manufacturers Associations (RMAs), allied through the FloridaMakes network, may enter into local partnerships with Florida SBDC regional offices to support small manufacturers through local programs and initiatives.

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed between the organizations in Jacksonville during the Florida Chamber’s Transportation Growth and Infrastructure Summit this week.

About the Florida SBDC Network:

For over 45 years, the Florida SBDC Network, the state’s principal provider of business assistance [Fl. Stat. 288.001], has nourished a statewide partnership between higher education and economic development to provide existing and emerging small and medium-sized business owners with management and knowledge resources that enable overall growth, increased profitability, and economic prosperity for Florida’s economy. In 2020, the Florida SBDC Network delivered more than 162,500 hours of consulting to more than 24,000 small businesses, resulting in 38,797 jobs impacted, $7.4 billion in sales generated, $553.5 million in capital accessed, and $488.1 million in government contracts acquired. According to an economic impact study conducted for the Florida SBDC, it was estimated that for every $1 invested in the Florida SBDC $60 is returned to the state in tax revenue and our services resulted in a $3.9 billion impact on Florida's economy. With over 40 offices statewide, the Florida SBDC is funded in part by the U.S. Small Business Administration, Department of Defense, State of Florida and other private and public partners. The Florida SBDC Network, headquartered at the University of West Florida, is nationally accredited by the Association of SBDCs and is a recipient of the President’s E Award for Export Service. Florida SBDC services are extended to the public on a nondiscriminatory basis. Language assistance services are available for individuals with limited English proficiency. For more information, please visit www.FloridaSBDC.org.

About FloridaMakes:

FloridaMakes’ sole mission is strengthening and advancing Florida’s economy by improving the competitiveness, productivity and technological performance of its manufacturing sector, with an emphasis on small- and medium-sized firms. It accomplishes this by providing services focused on three principal value streams: technology adoption, talent development, and business growth.
