Cancer patients wrapped in warmth, love, and relief

A diagnosis of cancer is every family’s worst nightmare, and getting through the shock of the diagnosis and the grueling courses of treatment can leave even the strongest individual or family feeling fragile and in need of a warm, fuzzy hug. For the past two years, Dyer Subaru in Vero Beach has been partnering with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) and local cancer treatment centers to provide gifts of warm blankets and encouraging messages of hope for patients undergoing treatment. They’ve joined with other Subaru dealerships throughout the country to help support nearly 300,000 cancer patients.

Each summer, when Florida temperatures skyrocket, members of the Dyer Subaru staff family and caring members of the community work together to gather warm blankets. And while the temperatures outside may be uncomfortably hot, patients undergoing cancer treatments often experience the kinds of chill that call for a toasty warm blanket. What could be better than receiving that blanket, along with a few words of love and support from a kind stranger who wants to share encouragement and help you stay strong even during the long hours of treatment? As it turns out, there’s even more love to go around. Patients also receive a small care package with body lotion, a soothing eye mask, some puzzles and games to help pass the treatment time, too.

Dyer Subaru believes strongly in building a better community and celebrating beauty and kindness in our midst. In addition to partnering with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to provide blankets and support for cancer patients, each month, Dyer dealerships make a difference in the community by celebrating nonprofit organizations with recognition and funding through the Dyer Difference Award. The monthly award and the $3,000 donations made to nonprofit organizations in each Indian River and St. Lucie Counties help make a positive difference in the community. For the recipients, it’s an acknowledgement of their tireless efforts to do the same and a much-needed financial boost to help further their missions. If you’d like to nominate a non-profit organization for the Dyer Difference Award, please visit www.dyerdifference.org or find Dyer Difference on Facebook.
