Former Stuart mayor named interim BDBMC director
The Business Development Board of Martin County has appointed Troy McDonald interim executive director. McDonald was unanimously appointed Sept. 23 by the BDBMC board of directors. McDonald joined the organization in 2025 as director of economic development after more than a decade in public office, including four years as mayor of Stuart.

Younger donors bring new giving approach
New research from Bank of America Private Bank finds a new generation of wealthy donors is reshaping philanthropy by supporting more causes and using a broader range of charitable tools than previous generations. Yet confidence in philanthropic succession is declining, with 47% of wealthy Americans saying the next generation is prepared to take on family philanthropic causes, down from 55% in 2024.

Enrique Rosario Liz Named National Youth of the Year
Enrique Rosario Liz has been named Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s 2026-27 National Youth of the Year, the highest honor awarded to a Boys & Girls Club member. Rosario Liz was announced as the national winner during a celebration at Cipriani in New York City. The event, emceed by Sara Haines of ABC’s “The View,” recognized six outstanding teens from across the country. Misty Copeland announced Rosario Liz as this year’s honoree.

City of Fort Pierce seeks applicants for Parks Advisory Committee
The Fort Pierce City Commission is seeking individuals to serve on the Parks Advisory Committee. The Parks Advisory Committee serves in an advisory capacity to the City Commission by providing input on park-related activities, recommending policies related to parks and recreational activities, conducting research on tasks assigned by the City Commission, and educating the public on initiatives directed by the City Commission.

United Way launches Mission United for veterans
United Way of Indian River County launched Mission United today, combining its countywide network with the Veterans Council of Indian River County’s four decades of service to local veterans. Mission United will continue the Veterans Council’s transportation, case management and direct assistance programs while connecting veterans and their families to a broader network of health, housing, financial stability, employment, education and legal services.
