VSOA offers holiday workshop for students

VSOA offers holiday workshop for students

Santa’s elves have nothing on the lucky kids who will be attending Visionary School of Arts (VSOA) Holiday Workshop from Dec. 19-21.

Students aged five-15 will have the opportunity to learn from professional artists, trying their hands at multiple mediums and learning professional application of watercolor, pastels and acrylic. Basic to intermediate drawing techniques will be explored – including upside-down drawing, which activates the right side of the brain.

Kids with all skill levels will enjoy the workshop and heighten their artistic skills. At the end of each day, every artist will take home a stunning piece of artwork, along with holiday inspired crafts such as their own hand-painted ornaments.

The cost for the three-day VSOA Holiday Workshop is $240, with one and two-day programs available at pro-rated costs. All necessary art supplies for the workshop are included in the cost. Students should bring lunch and a snack.

Visionary School of Arts is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with the mission to equip youth with award-winning fine art skills, artisanship, entrepreneurship and leadership while establishing community impact with a center for the arts and continued after-school education.

To register, visit www.visionaryschoolofarts.org and click on registration or call 772-283-4888. Visionary School of Arts is located at1724 SE Indian Street, Stuart.

POINSETTIA POWER! fundraiser for Meals on Wheels set for Dec. 7

Poinsettia Power! fundraiser for Meals on Wheels

The date is set for the Council on Aging of Martin County’s annual fundraiser for Meals on Wheels. Poinsettia Power! Holiday Shopping Bazaar, Luncheon and Fashion Show will be held at the Kane Center on Wednesday, Dec. 7.

Poinsettia Power is donning a tropical holiday theme this year, featuring pink poinsettias and bright colors. Guests are encouraged to attend in pink and green or tropical prints. Doors open for shopping at 10 a.m. The Holiday Bazaar is a great place to discover unique items that will wow even the hardest people to shop for on your list. Find anything from fine jewelry and fashion to home décor and gourmet foods. Plus, shopping helps benefit Meals on Wheels!

In addition to visiting the vendors, guests will have opportunities to participate in a prize drawing and a silent auction. This year’s prizes include staycation packages, a day with the interior designer Francesca Morgan, a box full of premium liquors, and a dine-around package, to name a few.

The luncheon will begin at noon led by guest emcee Ashley Glass, correspondent with Scripps National News. Following the luncheon will be the holiday fashion show produced by Rose Meyerowich. The Holiday Hat Parade and Contest will return as well. Guests are encouraged to attend the event in their most fabulous headpieces and then strut the runway for a chance to win a prize…and bragging rights.

Poinsettia Power was founded 17 years ago to ensure low-income, homebound seniors on the government waiting list for Meals on Wheels did not have to wait hungry. Last year, thanks to the generosity of the sponsors, underwriters and guests, Poinsettia Power raised a groundbreaking $100,000 for Meals on Wheels and supportive case management services. This year, the Council on Aging hopes to match the monumental success, which will help fight senior hunger and isolation in Martin County. The need continues to be great. Each weekday, at least 500 meals are prepared fresh by the Kane Center’s culinary team and hand-delivered to homes throughout Martin County.

“There is an unending need for the Meals on Wheels safety net,” said Karen Ripper, President and CEO of the Council on Aging. “During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, we were able to identify many seniors who had never needed or wanted to ask for help. Though the demand has leveled off, we are still delivering well over 100 more meals each day compared to pre-COVID times.”

Tickets are $100 per guest. Table sponsorships are also available for groups of eight or 10. Purchase online at www.kanecenter.org/foundation/poinsettia-power or call (772) 223-7827. The Kane Center is located at 900 SE Salerno Road in Stuart.

Poinsettia Power is sponsored by Publix Super Markets Charities, the Law Offices of John Mangan, P.A., Francesca Morgan Interiors, Martin Funeral Home & Crematory, N. Schoonover & Associates, Rehmann Financial Services, and Seacoast Bank.

That single lesson turned into an extensive career as a criminologist who specializes in sexual offenders and serial killers. She is also a subject matter expert on victimology and forensic psychology. Massnick has her own podcast which is victim centered.

The Distinguished Lecture Series is presented by the Fielden Institute for Lifelong Learning. Doors open 30 minutes before the lecture. Florida First Capital provided $348,713,000 in SBA dollars to small businesses and helped create 2,621 jobs. The company also finished the fiscal year ranked fourth nationally out of 270 CDCs across the country.

Florida First Capital is a nonprofit certified development company, created by the state of Florida to promote economic development and job creation by small businesses. SBA 504 loans are provided in partnership between CDCs like Florida First Capital and commercial lenders. In FY 2022, Florida First Capital and its commercial lending partners loaned $859,560,078 total dollars to Florida’s small businesses.

“This accomplishment is a testament to the Florida First Capital professional lending team and our lending partners who work diligently to help small business owners grow and succeed through the 504 loan program,” said Todd Kocourek, President and CEO of Florida First Capital Finance.

The SBA 504 Loan Program provides up to 90% financing at below-market, fixed interest rates for as long as 25 years to help small businesses buy or build commercial property, purchase heavy duty machinery and equipment and/or refinance commercial debt. “In a rising rate market, the 504 loan remains the best solution for small business owners,” said Kocourek.

In the SBA North Florida District during FY 2022, Florida First Capital dominated the market with $142,999,000 total approved dollars and 1,215 jobs created. In fact, of the SBA lenders serving north Florida, Florida First Capital lent 66% more SBA dollars and created more than twice the number of jobs than the next 5 lenders combined.

Since 1983, Florida First Capital has helped thousands of small businesses grow and expand, create jobs, and strengthen Florida’s economy. For more information on the SBA 504 Loan Program, visit our website at www.ffcfc.com or call 800.504.LOAN.

After a two-year absence, one of the area’s most heartwarming holiday celebrations returns when Mary’s Home of the Treasure Coast presents We’ve Made Room at the Inn.

Local businessman and philanthropist Steven Vitale has given the nonprofit access to his award-winning Inn and guest houses on Seminole Street and Colorado Avenue, which in turn have been spectacularly decorated by some of the Treasure Coast’s most respected designers. Divine Designs of the Treasure Coast -Trisha Piazza, Wonder Walls by Nikki K Interiors and Doris Clements Interiors have offered their expertise and talent and the result is charming cottages with Christmas décor that have no equal. The Ernest Lyons House will be decorated by the residents and staff of Mary’s Home.

The houses will be open from 11 a.m.- 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10 and from noon – 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 11.

The Old Colorado Inn is located at 211 S. Colorado Avenue in Stuart.

Tickets are $50 per person and include yummy Christmas treats, a raffle ticket for a Christmas Tree decorated by Dana Godfrey of Treasure Coast Home and Décor, as well as assorted holiday and gift baskets and entertainment provided by choirs and bands from local churches and schools.

Sponsorship opportunities for We’ve Made Room at the Inn are available at a variety of levels. Tickets can be purchased online at www.maryshome.org or at the door.

Now in its second decade, the role of Mary’s Home remains the same: to provide homeless, pregnant women with the support and guidance they need to become self-sufficient and make good choices for themselves and their children. To learn more, visit www.maryshome.org.
