A Day’s Journey: self-discovery and personal growth workshop

A Day’s Journey: self-discovery and personal growth workshop

Self-discovery doesn’t require you to reinvent yourself (unless you want to). You can simply desire to understand yourself better. We all question who we truly are at some point on our journey. Life gets busy, we get distracted with our goals and “to do’s”, raising our family and making others happy. Slowly, unintentionally along the way, we can lose our sense of self. You were in everyone else’s backyard but who was in yours? So, it makes sense if you are confused about what you want, your place in the world or your purpose. Plus, with the complexity in the world right now, it’s hard not to feel some level of stress. This workshop builds on how you can be compassionate with yourself and others but not take on the feelings of others that drain you and prohibit you living your life to the fullest. Here is one of my best coaching tips. You are the one you are waiting for! There is nothing out there that is going to provide sustainable joy and an optimal life- no job, no spouse, no achievement, no home, or vacation. Sustainable joy and the ability to give and receive love is an inside job and requires knowing yourself. And to do that, we need help observing our mind and behavior because it’s hard to step outside ourselves and be able to see gaps and suggest changes that would lead to our growth. Trust me, I have worked with the best and the brightest and we don’t see the water we swim in. Working together as a small, supportive group, we will draw on different techniques and concepts such as the Enneagram, Mindfulness, a consciousness model called “Living Above the Line” and other exercises and embodiment practices to gain a new perspective, uncover a deeper awareness about ourselves, access strengths we possess and shift our thought processes in ways that better support our thriving in life. Some of the many positive changes you may experience:

Get out of your comfort zone and try something new

Uncover unconscious patterns and habits that sabotage your enjoyment of life

Let go of other people’s image of you and follow your internal compass

Spend time visualizing your ideal self and lifestyle

Access a sense of calm and balance in your life

Experience heart opening and personal growth

Strengthen your meaningful relationships in a mutually beneficial wayStrategize your next moves

Feel supported and understood by like-minded folks that want to expand and grow just like you do

You’ll grow and change as you discover more about yourself. Trust me, your starting point will feel nothing like the finish line. I promise you a day of personal growth, renewal, and fun! Fee: $350 and may be paid by Venmo, PayPal, Zelle or check prior to workshop date. Group limited to 8. Please RSVP early and claim your spot/payment reserves your space.

IRSC Promise Program 2023 questions and answers

IRSC Promise Program 2023 questions and answers

On Nov. 16, 2022, Indian River State College (IRSC) revealed the IRSC Promise Program 2023—its most significant investment in eliminating barriers to higher education. Promise 2023 offers tuition-free Associate degrees for qualifying 2023 graduates from public and public charter high schools in Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee and St. Lucie counties, as well as eligible, in-district home school graduates.

Follows are answers to commonly asked questions:

What is the IRSC Promise Program?

The IRSC Promise Program provides tuition-free Associate degrees for students graduating in 2023 from public and public charter high schools in Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee and St. Lucie counties and eligible 2023 in-district homeschool graduates.

How does one get into the Program?

To take advantage of the program, eligible high school seniors must commit to IRSC by taking the Promise Pledge, available at promise.irsc.edu. The pledge deadline is March 10, 2023.

Is there a catch?

There is no catch. Any public or public charter high school graduate in the IRSC service district or eligible in-district homeschool graduate for 2023 who qualifies for Florida in-state residency and wishes to enroll as a full-time student in an IRSC Associate Degree program can participate.

What’s an eligible homeschool graduate?

In-district 2023 homeschool students need to provide an IRSC Homeschool Affidavit Form + School District Letter acknowledging the establishment or termination of their home education program.  Students homeschooled through a private school are considered private school students, not homeschoolers and are not eligible for the IRSC Promise Program.

Do students have to demonstrate financial need or be first-generation students to qualify?

No, the Promise is not based on need, however, Promise students must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each academic year.

Is a minimum high school GPA required?

The Promise program requires that you graduate in 2023 from a public or public charter high school in Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee or St. Lucie county or be an eligible in-district homeschool graduate. Students must meet the minimum 2.0 GPA required for high school graduation. Once at IRSC, students must maintain a 2.0 GPA to receive Promise funding.

Does the Promise apply to career-training (non-degree) certificates?
You must be enrolled full-time in an Associate Degree program to be part of the IRSC Promise Program. Several IRSC programs allow you to earn industry certifications as you progress toward your degree. These include A.S. and A.A.S. programs in trades such as Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Heating Systems Technology; Automotive Service Management Technology; Building Construction Technology; Criminal Justice Technology; and Fire Science Technology. View IRSC Associate in Science/Associate in Applied Science Degree programs at https://irsc.edu/programs/associate-in-science-degree-programs.html.

Is the Promise available to private school students?

Not yet.  We will continue to evaluate the program to inform future expansion plans. We encourage private school graduates to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and apply for IRSC Foundation scholarships for assistance with funding.

Are Dual Enrollment students eligible for the Promise?

Yes. Any student that is a 2023 graduate from an in-district public or public charter high school or an eligible 2023 in-district homeschool graduate, regardless of incoming credit, can pledge to the IRSC Promise program.

Is the Promise available to G.E.D.® students?

G.E.D.® students are not yet eligible for the IRSC Promise program. We will continue to evaluate the program for next year to make expansion plans. We encourage G.E.D.® students to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and apply for IRSC Foundation scholarships for assistance with funding.

Are graduates of Florida Virtual School eligible for the Promise?

No. Only graduates of public and public charter high schools in Martin, Indian River, Okeechobee, and St Lucie counties or eligible in-district homeschool graduates are eligible. We encourage Florida Virtual School graduates to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and apply for IRSC Foundation scholarships for assistance with funding.

Are DACA students eligible for the Promise?

Yes. If the State of Florida considers you a student, IRSC considers you a student. DACA students who qualify for Florida in-state residency can pledge to the Promise. We will work with each student individually to confirm eligibility.

What if a 2023 high school graduate completed an A.A. concurrent with high school graduation and wants to pursue an A.S. at IRSC?

That student would qualify for the Promise program to complete an A.S. Degree.

If I already have Florida Pre-paid, can I still be eligible for the Promise?

The IRSC Promise Program allows families with 529 plans, like Florida Prepaid, to stretch their investments even further. Those seeking to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree after completing an IRSC Associate Degree tuition-free can apply pre-paid balances toward that next educational milestone. Unused Florida Pre-Paid monies may also be returned to you; see  www.myfloridaprepaid.com for details.

Am I still eligible for the Promise if I already have Bright Futures or scholarships?

The Promise will apply to any tuition balance after funds from Bright Futures or scholarships are applied.

If I get financial aid, does the IRSC Promise still apply to me?
The Promise Program is last-dollar funding, meaning it will cover any tuition cost after financial aid and scholarships have been applied.

Will the Promise Program cover my tuition if I don’t qualify for Financial Aid or scholarships?
Yes, the Promise Program will cover the cost of tuition students who don’t qualify for Financial Aid or scholarships.

How is the IRSC Promise Program funded?

The IRSC Promise is a tuition-paid program sponsored by the IRSC Foundation and funded through generous donor philanthropy and unrestricted investment proceeds. The IRSC Promise Program has no cash value. The College looks forward to partnering with other private organizations to expand the program and meet the needs of even more students.

Are there any other costs apart from tuition for the Promise Program?
The Promise Program covers tuition only. There are additional costs students should budget for, including books, supplies, transportation, rent, and food.  Examples of fees you could be responsible for include distance learning fees, lab fees, and other special fees.  For more information on Indian River State College fees, visit the college catalog.

What if I am not eligible for the Promise Program?

Students not eligible for the Promise Program should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and apply for IRSC Foundation scholarships for assistance with funding.

How do I learn more about the IRSC Promise Program?

Students and parents can talk with their high guidance counselors or visit promise.irsc.edu to view a schedule of upcoming Promise Program Information Sessions, learn more about the program, and take the Promise Pledge.

Florida Power & Light donates $50,000 to support Florida SBDC disaster recovery efforts

FPL donates $50,000 to support Florida SBDC disaster recovery efforts

The Florida SBDC Network, the state’s principal provider of small business assistance, is committed to ensuring that small business owners impacted by Hurricane Ian receive the resources and assistance they need to rebuild and recover. The network is pleased to announce that Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) has provided the Florida SBDC with $50,000 to support the network’s continued efforts to help small businesses impacted by the storm.

“Since Ian first impacted our state, our network has been hard at work helping small businesses access the resources they need to rebuild and reopen,” said Greg Britton, state director of the Florida SBDC Network. “We are so appreciative of FPL’s support and their commitment to small businesses. It is through their generous support that we are able to continue to do the important work we do to help businesses recover.”

Hurricane Ian made landfall in Southwest Florida as one of the strongest hurricanes to hit the United States. The powerful storm has caused widespread damage to small business owners across the state.

The Florida SBDC Network serves as part of the state’s Emergency Support Function (ESF-18) for Business and Industry. In this role, the network plays an integral role following a disaster in helping coordinate recovery efforts and helping small business owners apply for disaster assistance.

In partnership with the SBA, state, and local partners, the network has opened and staffed Business Recovery Centers (BRCs) in hard-hit communities where impacted business owners can come for in-person assistance in understanding and applying for state and federal disaster loans. The Florida SBDC has also deployed its fleet of mobile assistance centers (MACs) - a fleet of recovery vehicles - into communities to establish BRCs where physical facilities are not easily available. MACs have been on the ground in the impacted area since immediately after the storm. These mobile units have brought support to eleven counties, helping to facilitate over 2,100 hours of service provided to impacted business owners through consulting at mobile and fixed site business recovery centers.

Florida Power & Light Company’s donation enables the network to extend its MAC and staff deployment in the field to support long-term recovery efforts, ensuring small business owners have access to critical resources

“I believe Florida’s SBDC is the best small business support network in the country,” said Pamela Rauch, vice president of external affairs and economic development for FPL. “They have been on the ground for more than a month in those areas hardest hit by Hurricane Ian and we’re happy to help them extend that support. Small businesses are the foundation of Florida’s economy and getting them back on their feet is critical to rebuilding not just the regions affected by the storm but the entire state.”

FPL’s Office of Economic Development works to attract new and expanding companies and capital investment to the state by providing Infrastructure assessments, energy rate quotes, information on energy efficiency programs and more. FPL also provides a small business tool to help companies identify and map potential customers and suppliers, and map demographics, labor force and consumer expenditure data.

For more information on how the network is helping small businesses recover from Hurricane Ian, please visit www.FloridaSBDC.org/disaster.

About the Florida SBDC Network:

For more than 45 years, the Florida SBDC Network, the state’s principal provider of business assistance [Fl. Stat. 288.001], has nourished a statewide partnership between higher education and economic development to provide existing and emerging small and medium-sized business owners with management and knowledge resources that enable overall growth, increased profitability, and economic prosperity for Florida’s economy. In 2021, the Florida SBDC Network delivered more than 157,000 hours of consulting to more than 18,000 small business clients – resulting in business owners securing over half a billion in capital, securing more than $380 million in government contracts, impacting 28,930 jobs, increasing sales by over $4 billion, and creating 778 new businesses.

With over 40 offices statewide, the Florida SBDC is funded in part by the U.S. Small Business Administration, Department of Defense, State of Florida and other private and public partners. The Florida SBDC Network, headquartered at the University of West Florida, is nationally accredited by the Association of SBDCs and is a recipient of the President’s E Award for Export Service. Florida SBDC services are extended to the public on a nondiscriminatory basis. Language assistance services are available for individuals with limited English proficiency. For more information, please visit www.FloridaSBDC.org.

Comcast Opens Xfinity Store in Port St. Lucie

Comcast Opens Xfinity store in Port St. Lucie

Comcast today announced the opening of a new Xfinity Store in Port St. Lucie. The store is designed entirely around the needs of Comcast customers, allowing them to experience the latest Xfinity services firsthand, plus handle account-related tasks like signing up for new services or exchanging equipment.

The new Xfinity Store has an open, inviting environment and features multiple counters staffed by Xfinity sales consultants, comfortable seating areas and displays that illustrate all the features of Xfinity’s full range of products and services, including Xfinity Internet, Xfinity X1, Xfinity Mobile, Xfinity Voice, and Xfinity Home products. The latest mobile devices from Apple, Google, LG, Motorola and Samsung, as well as wireless accessories are available for purchase at the store.

Plus, customers can pay bills, get answers to account-related questions and return old equipment or pick up new equipment. They can even schedule appointments online ahead of time for certain service requests by using the online Xfinity Store Locator to find the nearest store and selecting the Book Appointment” button.

“This new store will give our St. Lucie County customers the opportunity to try our products and services and see how they fit in to their lives. For example, parents can see first-hand how they can use our xFi platform to make sure their children are not getting too much screen time. And someone watching their budget can see how Xfinity Mobile can save them money on monthly cell phone bills,” said Javier Garcia, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Comcast’s Florida Region. “We’re also able to take great care of our customers in a conveniently located and comfortable environment with top-notch service for whatever they need.”

As a part of Comcast’s commitment to bridging the digital divide, customers can also come to the store for assistance with the Affordable Connectivity Program and Internet Essentials.

The federal Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) provides qualified individuals and households with a monthly credit of up to $30 to pay for internet and/or cellular phone service. Comcast is an ACP program participant and qualified customers can use the ACP credit towards any tier of Xfinity Internet service, including Internet Essentials.

Internet Essentials is Comcast’s signature digital equity initiative and the nation’s largest and most comprehensive broadband adoption program. It provides low-cost, in-home internet service for qualified households, the option to purchase an Internet-ready computer for less than $150 before taxes, plus multiple ways to access online digital literacy and skills training.

The Internet Essentials tier offers 50 Mbps internet service for $9.95 a month for qualified households. The Internet Essentials Plus tier offers 100 Mbps internet service, which is twice as fast, and costs $29.95 a month. The ACP’s $30 a month credit for internet and/or cellular phone service completely covers the monthly bill for Internet Essentials or Internet Essentials Plus.

The new Xfinity Store is located at 277 SW Port St Lucie Boulevard in Port St. Lucie in the shopping center with Winn-Dixie and is open seven days a week. Store hours are Monday through Saturday from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm and Sunday from 12 noon to 6:00 pm.

This store is replacing the Comcast customer service center that was located in the same shopping center at 261 SW Port St Lucie Boulevard and closed permanently October 21.

Comcast now has 45 Xfinity Stores throughout Florida. For more information about Xfinity products, services, and retail stores, call 1-800-XFINITY or visit www.xfinitystores.com
