Salvation Army welcomes new officers

Captains Deanne and Nathan Jones

The Salvation Army of Martin, St. Lucie and Okeechobee Counties welcomed new leaders this month, Captains Nathan and Deanne Jones. The couple, who have served in the Army for 13 years, relocated with their three children to Jensen Beach from their previous appointment in Dothan, Alabama.

“It is exciting to get to meet the people of the Treasure Coast and to discover the many opportunities for ministry, said Captain Deanne. “We look forward to meeting the needs of the community and 'Doing the Most Good' alongside the staff, volunteers, and supporters of The Salvation Army.”

It is the custom of the Salvation Army to move their officers to new locations every two to five years to keep the ministry fresh and to adjust to changing community needs. The Jones previously led corps offices in Knoxville and Chattanooga in Tennessee and in Owensboro, Kentucky.

The Salvation Army operates service centers in Martin, St. Lucie and Okeechobee Counties, providing food, clothing and emergency financial assistance to people in need. It operates Compassion House, a shelter for homeless women and children, and offers a weekly soup kitchen, children’s programs, Sunday church services and weekly bible studies. The Salvation Army, an evangelical part of the universal Christian church established in London in 1865, has been supporting those in need in His name without discrimination for more than 130 years in the United States. Nearly 30 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army each year through a broad array of social services that range from providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children. 82 cents of every dollar The Salvation Army spends is used to support those services in 5,000 communities nationwide.
