Former NBA players rally behind Crossover Mission

In an inspiring show of support, former NBA players Drew Gooden of the Memphis Grizzlies and Tony Battie of the Denver Nuggets joined forces with Crossover Mission to bolster their efforts in inspiring and redirecting the lives of at-risk youth in Indian River County. These influential figures made a guest appearance at Crossover Mission’s Center for Excellence to leverage their expertise and experience to empower the next generation, fostering a positive impact within the community.

Crossover Mission has long been recognized for its unwavering commitment to uplifting disadvantaged youth through basketball training and academic and life skills mentoring. The recent collaboration with former NBA players, Gooden and Battie, represents a transformative step towards expanding their reach and impact.

The distinguished former NBA players, Goodin and Battie, have expressed their enthusiasm for Crossover Mission’s program and its potential to make a lasting difference as they aim to inspire young individuals and equip them with invaluable skills on and off the court.

Crossover Mission provides over 100 student-athletes with comprehensive basketball training sessions that focus on skill development, teamwork, and character building. Additionally, they receive one-to-one academic mentoring to enhance their educational prospects and encourage academic excellence.

“I’ve seen other programs like Crossover Mission, but not this complex…diving into the students’ academics. I think that is what separates a lot of programs from Crossover.” said former NBA player Drew Gooden.

Antoine Jennings, co-founder and Director of Operations of Crossover Mission, said, “We are deeply grateful for the inspiration that Drew Gooden and Tony Battie brought to Crossover Mission. Their willingness to share their expertise, stories, and experiences instilled a sense of motivation in our student-athletes and served as a powerful reminder that hard work and dedication can lead to incredible achievements.”

The collaborative efforts between Crossover Mission and the former NBA players hope to have made a lasting impact on the lives of underserved youth of Indian River County. By combining basketball training with academic mentoring, Crossover Mission aims to instill discipline, resilience, and determination in participants, empowering them to overcome challenges, pursue their dreams, and help shape their future, both in sports and in life.
