THE LEAD STORY

Longtime Lure

Fishermen are known for swapping larger-than-life stories, but the camaraderie at White’s Tackle is no fish tale. The nearly 100-year-old business fosters friendships that have lasted lifetimes. Albert “Buck” White opened his tackle store in Fort Pierce’s P.P. Cobb Building in 1935, moving to Second Street in 1945 following World War II. Donald “Raffy” Raffensberger bought the store from White’s sister, Linnie Tamplin, in 1973. He kept the name, and in 1996 he passed the business on to his son, John “Don” Raffensberger, who ran it until 2007, the year his father passed away and former employee Scott Crippen bought the business.

LactaLogics invests in energy updates

Port St. Lucie-based manufacturer LactaLogics will soon have a lower environmental impact because of energy-efficiency updates to its manufacturing site and headquarters. The donor-based, non-perishable breast milk supplier renovated its existing medical warehouse into a 71,000-square-foot, high-tech manufacturing facility.

Council on Aging Martin starts new mobile service

The Council on Aging’s Elder Care Mobile Outreach program will soon be available to help seniors throughout Martin County neighborhoods who need assistance with the challenges of aging. Thanks to a $100,000 Impact Grant from Impact100 Martin, Council on Aging will be able to hire a second Case Manager Navigator to go directly to underserved seniors throughout Martin County who face social isolation and loneliness, and then connect them with essential services.

City of Fort Pierce presents the 2023 Annual Report

The City of Fort Pierce is excited to release the 2023 Annual Report, showcasing our achievements from the previous year. From innovative projects to community engagement efforts, the 2023 Annual Report serves as a testament to the hard work and dedication of Fort Pierce's community leaders, employees, and residents.

Lights! Camera! Action!

The lights went down, and a hush fell over the crowd as the Vero Beach Film Festival took the stage and the city of Vero Beach by storm. There were comedies, tragedies, and memorable moments galore as the Festival spotlighted creativity, artistry, and the importance of entertainment on a community, and the Dyer Automotive Group was delighted to participate in this year’s event, the seventh annual Vero Beach Film Festival.

Survey: majority of small and mid-sized business owners anticipate revenue growth this year

A majority of small and mid-sized business owners expect their revenues to increase this year, and their worries over a recession have declined substantially, according to the 2024 Bank of America Business Owner Report, conducted in partnership with Bank of America Institute. While business owners remain mindful of the impacts of inflation and interest rates on their bottom lines, both concerns have lessened since Spring 2023. And despite some lingering uncertainties over the broader economy, business owners plan to expand their businesses in the year ahead.

Welcome home Honor Flight Veterans

Saturday, May 18^th, Southeast Florida Honor Flight volunteers will be escorting a full load of veterans on the free trip of a lifetime as the first Honor Flight of 2024 takes off for a daylong trip to Washington, D.C. At 8:20 p.m., the veterans, their volunteer guardians, and volunteer staff will be returning from a full day of being honored and celebrated in Washington, D.C., courtesy of Southeast Florida Honor Flight. Even if you’re not on the flight as a veteran or volunteer guardian, you can help welcome the veterans home after a very moving day in Washington, DC.

Treasure Coast Hospice to host community luncheons for faith leaders

Treasure Coast Hospice will present Riding the Waves: An Overview of Grief, Loss and Spirituality at community luncheons for local clergy, rabbis and lay ministers. Conducted by Treasure Coast Hospice spiritual care coordinators, the presentation will explore the stages of grief and how spirituality serves as a beacon of hope. Clergy and lay leaders of all faiths are invited to attend one of the scheduled luncheons
