Literacy Program Receives Dollar General Grant

Learn to Read of St. Lucie County was recently awarded a $10,000 Dollar General Foundation Grant to help purchase and Implement CASAS (Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System). According to Learn to Read St. Lucie County Executive Director Matt Anderson, “CASAS is the most widely used competency-based assessment system in the United States designed to assess the relevant real-world basic skills of adult learners. CASAS measures the basic skills and the English language and literacy skills needed to function effectively at work and in life. Use of the CASAS skill level descriptors and assessment for ABE (Intermediate Basic Skills) and ELL (High Intermediate Level) in all five skills areas (Reading, Listening, Speaking, Writing, Interactions) to establish learning program objectives for all learners.”

Dr. Lori Posk Joins Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital

Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital welcomes internal medicine physician Lori Posk, MD, FACP. Dr. Posk earned her doctor of medicine from Michigan State University and completed her internal medicine residency at Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio. She is board certified in internal medicine and clinical informatics.

Physicians Help Feed the Community

According to Senior Program Director Homer Gutierrez of the Treasure Coast Food Bank, a one dollar donation converts to eight meals. Last week, the Physicans of Lawnwood Regional Medical Center and Heart Institute presented Gutierrez with a check for $1,500 to help alleviate hunger on the Treasure Coast. The physicians’ gift will help provide 15,000 meals to individuals in the community who are experiencing what are known as food insecurity issues.

The City has received prestigious, national recognition for its efforts to engage citizens and give them a “voice” when planning for Port St. Lucie’s future. City officials were notified this week that Port St. Lucie has won the 2019 Voice of the People Award for Transformations in Foundations.

Pursuit Boats’ expansion to triple Fort Pierce campus

Pursuit Boats, one of St. Lucie County’s largest manufacturers, broke ground today for the first phase of an expansion that will ultimately increase their local employment to 600 and bring their campus footprint to 100 acres of land with 773,000 square feet of manufacturing and support space.
