Housing affordability summit set for Jan. 30

The Economic Development Council of St. Lucie County (EDC) is convening a summit on the Future of Housing Affordability Jan. 30 in Port St. Lucie. St. Lucie County ranked first in Florida and third in the U.S. for the worst decline in housing affordability in ATTOM Data Solutions’ first quarter 2024 analysis. The cost of home ownership consumed 52% of household wages versus a historical average of 29%, according to the study.

The Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) is an English rock band formed in Birmingham in 1970 by songwriters and multi-instrumentalists Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood with drummer Bev Bevan. During ELO's original 13-year period of active recording and touring, they sold over 50 million records worldwide.

City of Fort Pierce Commissioners seek applications for Historic Preservation Board

The City of Fort Pierce Commission is seeking residents to serve on the Historic Preservation Board. This important board, which meets on the fourth Monday of each month at 2:00 p.m., plays a key role in preserving the historical and architectural heritage of the City of Fort Pierce.

United Way of Indian River County offers free income tax preparation assistance

United Way of Indian River County, in partnership with the IRS, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, is once again offering free tax preparation and e-filing services to residents with an annual household income of $67,000 or less.

2025 Rappaport Speaker Series begins Feb. 13

Whether it’s wildfires or a hurricane threatening to take down the power grid or a crippling cyber-attack by a bad action from a foreign country, our national security is under constant threat. Juliette Kayyem, a national leader in homeland security and crisis management, will address the question “How Secure is Our National Security?” as the first presenter in this year’s Rappaport Center Speaker Series. The program is open to the public at Temple Beit HaYam in Stuart on Feb. 13.
