2019 Scholarship winners during the program at Fort Pierce Central High School
ST. LUCIE COUNTY – The St. Lucie County Education Foundation awarded 58 scholarships on May 9 during a program at Fort Pierce Central High School. 21 donors provided close to $50,000 to graduating seniors of St. Lucie Public Schools. Joseph E. Smith, St Lucie County Clerk of the Court was the keynote speaker.
Donors included The Aaron Project in memory of Aaron Beauchamp, MIDFLORIDA Credit Union, AT&T, St. Lucie County Fair Association, Tess & Abbey Huber Athletic Scholarship, Post Insurance, Kiwanis Club, St. Lucie CTA/CU, the Democratic Women’s Club, the Education Foundation, Jeff Furst Family Scholarship, Fort Pierce Masonic Lodge 87, Sailfish Beer Mile, Andrew Schmeer Memorial Scholarship, and many more.
The ceremony was attended by School Board Chairman Debbie Hawley, Vice Chairman Kathryn Hensley, and members Troy Ingersoll and Dr. Donna Mills. Dr. Jon Prince, Deputy Superintendent also attended and gave remarks. Members of the Education Foundation Board in attendance included Robbi Giaccone, Vicki Rodriguez, and Makeda Brome, the 2020 Teacher of the Year. All high school principals and executive directors of the school district also attended.
Each year the Education Foundation solicits corporate and individual sponsors to support the Education Foundation General Scholarship Fund or make a donation to a named scholarship. Donations for a named scholarship start at $1000. Each donor has an opportunity to shape a scholarship to meet their passion and can participate in the evening’s activities.
Thom Jones, President of the Education Foundation thanked all of the parents, educators, and sponsors for their support of our children. He also noted that the Education Foundation has been providing scholarships for over 20 years. “We are accepting new donors for next year,” he added.
