VERO BEACH – Author Karen Tripson has fond memories of her childhood in Vero Beach. Those memories include daily visits to the home of her grandparents, Waldo and Elsebeth Sexton, who lived next door, as well as trips to Waldo’s botanical paradise, McKee Jungle Gardens. Tripson will return to the Garden for a special author lecture and book signing event on Wednesday, March 27 at 2:00 p.m.

Tripson’s lecture will spotlight her new novel, The Cooking Class in San Sebastian, a story about love late in life, aging, the challenges of staging a Basque art exhibit and Basque cuisine. She will discuss the inspiration behind her novel, and attendees will get to taste samples of the food featured in the book, pintxos, and a small wine sampling, prepared by Sealantro at the Garden Café. As an additional treat, Tripson will recall personal memories of her grandfather, Waldo Sexton.

“I am happy to have a chance to speak about my book as well as share my memories about Papa that no one has ever heard before, except maybe my siblings,” stated Tripson. “Like anyone who is written about a lot, the same Waldo anecdotes get told over and over. I want to add something new to the history of Waldo; a different point of view on a complex man.”

Space is limited for Karen Tripson’s March 27 lecture at McKee and advanced registration is required. Those interested in attending may call 772-794-0601 to register. Cost to attend the event is $20 for McKee members and $25 for non-members. Copies of The Cooking Class in San Sebastian will be available for $14.95 (plus sales tax) during the book signing.
