Rooted in Community, Blooming for Generations

Tucked along Savannah Road in Fort Pierce, Heathcote Botanical Gardens stands as a testament to the enduring power of community vision and green space preservation. Established in 1986, this nonprofit garden has grown from a modest idea into a vibrant cultural and educational hub serving the Treasure Coast.

Founded by a group of dedicated local women, Gloria Moore, Laura Baker, Jan Bals, Norma Cassens, and Peggy Berg, Heathcote began with a mission to protect natural beauty while creating a place for connection and learning. Decades later, that mission continues to flourish across its lush grounds at 210 Savannah Road.

Heathcote offers more than a walk through curated landscapes. It provides a blend of horticulture, education and community engagement, welcoming families, students and visitors seeking both relaxation and enrichment. Its nationally recognized bonsai collection, the largest public display in the United States, draws enthusiasts from across the country.

Educational programming remains central to its impact. Workshops, children’s activities and seasonal events invite guests of all ages to deepen their understanding of nature while fostering a sense of environmental stewardship.

Yet what sets Heathcote apart is its atmosphere. It is not merely a garden but a space designed for reflection — a place where visitors can slow down, reconnect and experience the restorative qualities of the natural world.

As Heathcote looks to the future, its focus remains on accessibility, preservation and community. What began as a grassroots effort continues to thrive as a shared sanctuary, ensuring generations to come will find inspiration among its gardens.
