When will Treasure Coast economy, employment be back to normal?
|
|
As he makes presentations from his office in Tallahassee to virtual audiences asking about the coronavirus pandemic’s impact on the Florida economy and unemployment rate, Jerry Parrish always gets two questions: What signs do we look for to show life is returning to normal, and, when will be normal?
The chief economist and director of research at the Florida Chamber Foundation said his responses are also always the same: When college football games are played; and when an effective, widely available treatment for COVID-19 is found. Parrish, a bachelor’s and doctoral grad and football fan of Auburn University, expects a treatment this fall followed by a vaccine sometime in 2021.

Treasure Coast Hospice Certified as a Great Place to Work®
|
|
Great Place to Work Institute has honored Treasure Coast Hospice with certification as a Great Place to Work®. The certification process considered employee surveys from across Treasure Coast Hospice’s two campuses. Great Place to Work®, an independent research and consulting firm, evaluated more than 60 elements of team members’ experience on the job. These included employee pride in the organization’s community impact, belief that their work makes a difference, and feeling their work has special meaning. Rankings are based on employees’ experiences, no matter who they are or what they do in the organization.
This is the first year Treasure Coast Hospice has participated in the survey, with 83% of staff members saying that it is a great place to work compared to 59% of employees at a typical U.S.-based company.
“Treasure Coast Hospice is honored to be recognized for being a Great Place to Work,” said CEO Jackie Kendrick, CHPCA. “Our team’s commitment to service and their dedication to delivering compassionate care to this community is what sets our organization apart. Hospice work is a calling that every member of our team takes to heart, creating a dynamic, collaborative environment where our staff members have the ability to truly make a difference in the lives of those we serve.”

According to the survey’s results, 97% of employees said their “work has special meaning” and they “feel good about the ways their work contributes to the community.” In addition, Treasure Coast Hospice was chosen as a top place to work because staff enjoy a sense of pride in their accomplishments, feel welcomed upon joining, and believe they are making a difference.
“We applaud Treasure Coast Hospice for seeking certification and releasing its employees’ feedback,” said Dr. Jacquelyn Kung of Great Place to Work’s senior care affiliate Activated Insights. “These ratings measure its capacity to earn its own employees’ trust and create a great workplace for high performance.”

Dr. Dave’s Blue Beard Challenge
|
|
Former Environmental Learning Center (ELC) volunteer and staff Naturalist in the 1990’s, David Cox has been an avid supporter of the ELC for many years. The kids he enjoyed teaching as a Naturalist dubbed him Dr. Dave.
Now, Dr. Dave wants to continue his support and raise unrestricted funds for future successes of the ELC through the Dr. Dave’s Blue Beard Challenge. After ELC Executive Director Barbara Schlitt Ford’s success during her Blue Hair Challenge, David was inspired to continue the campaign.
As a longtime ELC enthusiast, Dr. Dave served on the ELC Education Committee and helped design the boardwalks and canoe dock. More recently, he was a member of the ELC Master Planning Group, conducted environmental surveys and currently serves on the ELC Landscape Advisory and Interpretive Plan Committees.
Dr. Dave’s goal is to raise $10,000 by the end of August.
“My reason for proposing Dr. Dave’s Blue Beard Challenge is that for over 20 years now I have worked to make the ELC a success, and this challenge is one more effort to add to ELC’s successes,” said David.

Let’s stay open St. Lucie!
|
|
As Florida continues to experience daily growth in Covid-19 cases, the St. Lucie County Chamber of Commerce would like to remind you how important it is to continue the reopening process. Double digit unemployment is not sustainable and contradictory to a healthy economy.
Our nation is facing formidable obstacles in the fight against this global pandemic. Risky behavior could result in a backslide of restrictions. With so much at stake, we want to encourage you to maintain minimum safety standards and are asking for cooperation of courtesy. Let’s err on the side of caution. Social distance, wash your hands, sanitize, and wear a mask. In a time where many of us are feeling helpless, there is something you can do. Protect yourself, your family, your friends, and your co-workers. It doesn’t matter what you believe, or what you are fighting for, you’re doing it for others, not for yourself! Let’s stay open St. Lucie!
Disposable masks, cloth masks and sanitizer are in stock and available through the chamber. Click here.
