VERO BEACH – The Vero Beach Theatre Guild, the 61-year-old Community Theatre, is holding auditions for eight men and eight women ages 18-70 to appear in the musical comedy “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” with book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbert and music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.

Auditions will be held Saturday Dec. 17, 18 and 20 at 7 p.m. at the Vero Beach Theatre Guild located at 2020 San Juan Avenue, Vero Beach. Performances of the musical comedy are scheduled for March 12-24, 2019.

Sondheim’s musical romp through Rome has desperate lovers, scheming neighbors and secrets behind every toga. One of Broadway’s greatest farces is light, fast-paced, witty, irreverent and one of the funniest musicals. “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” takes comedy back to its roots, combining 2000-year-old comedies of Roman playwright Plautus with the infectious energy of classic vaudeville.
