PORT ST. LUCIE — The board of directors of the Economic Development Council of St. Lucie County (EDC) appointed Amy Brunjes as chairwoman last week, the first woman to lead the organization in its 18-year history.

As regional manager for external affairs for Florida Power & Light Company (FPL), Brunjes is responsible for managing issues and growing and maintaining long-lasting relationships in five counties: Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River and Okeechobee.

Prior to her 11 years with FPL, Brunjes was Florida vice president of the Boston-based Regan Communications, one of the largest independent public relations firms in the country. A seasoned veteran of the newspaper industry, Brunjes also held several editor positions at South Florida’s flagship newspapers, including Treasure Coast Newspapers. Brunjes is a graduate of the University of Florida.

“We are honored that Amy has agreed to serve as board chair this year,” said EDC President Pete Tesch. “With a territory encompassing all the Treasure Coast and part of the Gold Coast, Amy is in high demand. We are grateful she has an enduring commitment to economic development in St. Lucie County.”

“The EDC is a stellar economic development organization and I am very pleased to be able to take up the gavel to promote quality growth and economic vitality in St. Lucie County and the Treasure Coast,” Brunjes said.

Brunjes replaces Wes McCurry who left the board due to a change in employment. Rob L. Lord Jr., president and CEO of Martin Health System, was named chair-elect.
