VERO BEACH — On April 23 Rehmann’s Vero Beach, FL office hosted its third annual Indian River State College (IRSC) Chef Challenge at Quail Valley River Club. The event offered students an opportunity to showcase their culinary talents to win a scholarship.

Students were divided into four groups of two and were required to create a specialty dish and a mystery dish. The mystery dish included a secret ingredient, quail eggs, that was presented to the chefs during the competition.

Event attendees judged the dishes based on taste, presentation, texture and creativity.

Rehmann associates Cheri Jones, CPA and Jeff Phillips, CFA, CPA and managing director of Rehmann Financial presented the coveted championship trophy along with scholarships, to winners Tamesha Hamilton and Garrett Boone.

Hamilton and Boone’s winning dish was braised collard greens, Southern crusted scallops with pickled green tomato relish and Cajun cream sauce.

“It is a joy to get together with members of the community to celebrate, recognize and support the exceptional culinary school we have right here in Indian River County,” said Phillips. “This is a fun and competitive event that provides these students an opportunity to utilize their talents and provide all of us with a sampling of their skills.”

Rehmann also presented a donation to the IRSC Foundation to benefit the culinary program at the college.

“Competitions in general are a great experience for our students,” said Bill Solomon, IRSC culinary instructor. “When we partner with Rehmann, our students benefit from the competition as well as the generosity of the folks at Rehmann who contribute towards scholarships intended for culinary students.”
