Vero Beach Museum of Art

The Vero Beach Museum of Art has announced a new program intended for Veterans in our community beginning on Oct. 3, with the Veterans Community Mural Project.

The program will consist of five classes for five weeks and will include opportunities for creative expression in a Museum gallery and art studio setting; help Veterans identify elements of art and principles of design when viewing and creating artworks; offer a safe space to preserve and share stories of Veterans’ service experiences through a variety of media; educate the broader community about Veterans’ stories; and honor local Veterans’ commitment, time, and the sacrifices made.

Sara Klein, VBMA Director of Education, said, “The Museum is always looking to identify ways to better connect and serve our community, and to fulfill the needs of an underserved audience. The veterans in Indian River County is one such group, and after multiple discussions with key stakeholders, it was clear this program was strongly supported. Based on these conversations the Museum has created a multi-faceted program to connect these Veterans to one and other, and creative ways of looking at and making art.”

The initiative, which is open to all Indian River County Veterans, has been made possible by the generous support of the VBMA Circle member donors, and each class is available at no charge to veteran participants.

“We are excited to tap into the experiences and stories that the Veterans will bring into these classes and see how they manifest into visual expressions. This is a new program for the Museum, but one that I feel very passionate about and thrilled to be spearheading as well as teaching.” Comments Dawn Miller, VBMA Art’s For Health Sake Program Manager.
