Backus Museum temporarily closed
The A.E. Backus Museum & Gallery in Fort Pierce is temporarily closed. “Your safety, your wellbeing, and our ability to share works of art with you are our enduring priorities,’’ said a statement from the museum. “We know that art and beauty are comforting in difficult times, and in these moments of uncertainty and social distancing, we hope you will be ready for the days that art can bring us together again.’’

McKee Botanical Garden open but show and tour canceled

The 3rd Annual Garden & Antique Show scheduled for March 20-22 and the Spring Bus Tour to Morikami Japanese Gardens is canceled for April 1.
The main garden remains open. However, the children’s garden, cafe, and gift and book shop are closed until further notice.
Pineapple Playhouse show moved to next season
Calendar Girls at the Pineapple Playhouse in Fort Pierce, scheduled to open this week, has been canceled. The theater plans to add it to next season’s schedule.
Tennis tournament still on schedule for now

The 2020 Mardy Fish Children’s Foundation Tennis Championships set for April 26-May 3 at The Boulevard Tennis Club in Vero Beach remains on schedule for now.
Last week, the U.S. Tennis Association and the International Tennis Federation suspended all events up until at least April 20.
“So as of now, our event is still on track as originally scheduled,’’ the tennis club said in a news release. “We will keep all of our fans and supporters posted on developments in the near future and of any official announcements by the USTA and ITF.’’
Golf tournament date changed

The St. Lucie County Chamber of Commerce has changed the date of its annual golf tournament to Friday, May 2. The tournament will be held at Gator Trace Golf & Country Club in Fort Pierce. Call 772.595.9999 or email [email protected]
Hotel, grill at Capt. Hiram’s stays open, beach bar closed
Capt. Hiram’s Resort in Sebastian has closed Capt Hiram's SandBar Beach Club but will keep Blackfins Riverfront Grill open with limited services and a limited occupancy of no more than 50 people at one time. Capt Hiram's Adventure Center & Marina and the gift shop operations will be closed until further notice. Capt Hiram's Hotel and Best Western Plus Sebastian Hotel & Suites will stay open with limited services. The resort will reassess the situation as needed.
City of Port St. Lucie updates announced

Effective Wednesday, the City of Port St. Lucie is suspending in-person services at the Utility Customer Service office. Residents are encouraged to manage their account online at www.Utility.CityofPSL.com, pay by phone, 24 hours a day/ 7days a week at 772-873-6400, and utilize the drop-off box outside City Hall.
The city is keeping regular hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at city buildings including City Hall and the Police Department. The Saints Golf Course remains open for business but hospitality services have been suspended. All game room activities at the Community Center have been suspended and the Minsky Gym has been closed to the public.
The city is also is asking all residents to be more cognizant of the amount of garbage and trash they generate that would typically be placed curbside. Like other businesses, the waste hauling industry may experience reductions in their workforce due to precautionary measures or as a direct result of exposure to the virus.
