FORT PIERCE — Indian River State College (IRSC) and WQCS (FM 88.9) are pleased to announce the appointment of Chris Puorro as Station Manager. Puorro will oversee the daily operations of WQCS, the National Public Radio member station for the Treasure Coast. Owned by IRSC, the station is located on the Main Campus in Fort Pierce.

Puorro’s career in radio spans more than two decades. He comes to WQCS from WUCF-FM in Orlando, Florida, where he served as Operations Manager since 2012. With his help, the station became the highest-rated NPR Jazz Station in the country and requalified for its Corporation for Public Broadcasting grant. He also taught “Radio Programming and Production” for the School of Communication at University of Central Florida.

Prior to joining WUCF, Puorro was the Operations Manager for Nassau Broadcasting in various Northeastern markets, including Cape Cod, Maryland, and New Jersey. He has worked in major metro markets including New York City, Philadelphia, and the New Jersey shore. He was nominated three times as “Music Director of the Year,” a national award from Gavin Magazine, winning the award in 1999. He holds a B.A. from the College of New Jersey.
