Vero Beach Film Festival holds premiere screening of film tackling childhood illiteracy
The Vero Beach Film Festival team is deeply committed to education and knowledge. Their new program, “Lights, Camera, Education,” partners directly with high schools throughout Vero Beach to teach students the basics of the film industry and guide them through the process of creating their own artistic works in programs like NEXT UP! Student Films. The team aims to support and spotlight those who are working to empower the next generation, helping them succeed in any career path they choose.
WHO: The Vero Beach Film Festival, led by Executive Director David Yakir, Co-Founder Susan Keller Horn, and Assistant Director Christine Luethje, will be holding a special film screening sponsored by The Learning Alliance and the Moonshot Community Action Network (MCAN). The documentary, entitled SENTENCED, will explore the devastating impact of childhood illiteracy and its connection to poverty.
WHAT: Executively produced by award-winning producer Jeff Martin and narrated by 4-time NBA basketball champion Stephen Curry, SENTENCED discusses the lives of people suffering from illiteracy, and how the ability to read can free children from generational poverty.
The upcoming film showing will be in support of The Learning Alliance and the Moonshot Community Action Network (MCAN)’s campaign for grade level reading.
WHEN/WHERE: The premiere screening of SENTENCED will be held on September 17th at the Theatre Guild, 2920 San Juan Ave, Vero Beach FL 32960.
An encore showing will be held on September 18th at the North County Library in Sebastian. North Indian River County Library, 1001 Sebastian Boulevard Sebastian, FL 32958.
Doors open at 5:30pm, with the film running from 6pm to 7:15pm. Light fare and refreshments will be provided during a 45-minute reception for people interested in learning about local volunteer opportunities.
