Triton Submarines CEO and co-founder honored with the Order of Canada
Triton Submarines CEO and Co-Founder Patrick Lahey has recently been appointed to the Order of Canada, one of the highest honors in the country, for his outstanding achievement and service to the nation.
The Order of Canada is a Canadian national order; acceptance is the second highest honor for merit in Canada’s systems of orders, decorations, and medals. The order was established in 1967 as a fellowship that recognizes the outstanding merit or distinguished service of Canadians who make a significant difference to Canada through lifelong contributions.
The order’s Advisory Council receives each of the six to eight hundred nominations submitted each year by any person or organization. Along with the governor-general, the council makes the final selection of new inductees, typically by consensus rather than a vote. These exceptional individuals come from various sectors, and past nominees include scholars, military personnel, musicians, film directors, actors, and scientists.
Patrick Lahey commented: “I was humbled to learn of my appointment to the Order of Canada. This is one of my country’s highest honors, and it’s deeply meaningful for me to be recognized in this way. When I consider the other Canadian Underwater Mentors’ I know who have received this honor (Dr. Joe Macinnis, Dr. Phil Nuytten, and James Cameron), it’s particularly meaningful.”
Patrick’s four decades-long career has seen him make remarkable contributions to the field of submersibles and deep-sea exploration, which have also had a significant global impact. As one of the world’s pre-eminent experts on submersibles, Patrick has led Triton in developing an entire range of human-occupied submersibles.
