The Source in Vero Beach is helping to eradicate homelessness in Indian River County

On any given day, Anthony Zorbaugh, Executive Director of The Source, is busy overseeing a plethora of on-going programs and services, several off site residential properties and a full time staff. What he and his top-shelf team have created to aid in helping the homeless turn their lives around in a dignified manner is staggering, even to him.

“What we are accomplishing is beyond our wildest dreams,” states Zorbaugh, as he looks back at his 10 year tenure in an organization that is in its 30th year of operation. Zorbaugh knows that his quest in moving people out of homelessness is more than just feeding them breakfast, lunch and dinner, 7 days a week, from their Commerce Ave campus. His unlimited passion and creative ideas in making the homeless feel at home, find a home and gain employment will usually lead to a better future for those who walk through their doors looking for an answer.  The Source has those answers in abundance.

According to The Treasure Coast Homeless Service’s 2025 Point-in-Time Data Report that was published in February 2025, there are currently 123 documented homeless individuals in Indian River County, made up of Vero Beach, Sebastian and Fellsmere. Out of that number, there are 92  unsheltered adults, with 30 children making up the difference.

The Source can document that they are currently housing 99 individuals nightly, those who once found themselves struggling in our community, and are now housed. Of those individuals, 55 are sleeping in beds in three Dignity buses, and another 44 individuals are housed in several offsite rental properties operated by The Source. They are making these types of strides without any government funding, simply by building relationships with local funding opportunities, philanthropic individuals and organizations that have become educated into what The Source is all about and ultimately supporting their efforts.

“Over the last thirty days alone, thirty of The Source’s members have become housed and have landed employment” Zorbaugh shares. “This is what we are all about.  We move people out of homelessness through our programs and services and with a powerful sense of community, respect and a shared belief that everyone deserves the chance to live a life of dignity.”

I am Ministries DBA The Source is a Christian social outreach ministry that has been empowering communities into a lifestyle of service for the homeless since 1995. Founded in Indian River County, the organization serves its homeless neighbors through core programs that include Dining with Dignity-a culinary employability training program, Dignity Catering and Dignity Food Trucks, Dignity Buses-mobile overnight emergency shelters sleeping 55 nightly, as well as a total of 10 Dignity Programs and a myriad of services that have been impactful in instilling a sense of community for all of The Source members.

“We know that we are a cutting edge non-profit. We dream and we create. We bring our message loud and clear, near and far, and we are seeing the positive effects of what we do,” Zorbaugh shares.  “How we demonstrate what we do is no longer hushed up around the dinner table. All our efforts are finally combined into one for the whole country to see as a blueprint for other communities to emulate in their own way for their own community. We have always focused on eradicating homelessness in IRC, and we are very much on the way to doing just that!”
