Nopetro Renewables Breaks Ground in Vero

Indian River County will break ground on southern Florida’s first landfill-gas-to-renewable natural gas (RNG) production facility in Vero Beach, made possible through a public-private partnership with Nopetro Renewables. The groundbreaking will take place Wednesday, March 27, at 10 a.m. at 7625 Ninth St. SW, Vero Beach

RNG, a biogas and the lowest carbon alternative fuel, will be produced from the capture and removal of methane gas from the Indian River County landfill. After a purification process, it will then enter Florida City Gas’ existing natural gas pipeline infrastructure to be distributed to customers, creating cleaner fuel for buses/trucks and cleaner air for the community.

The facility, called Vero Beach Nopetro Eco District, is estimated to initially produce 3 million gallons of RNG a year, equal to 30,000 metric tons of CO2 displacement. The RNG Plant will provide approximately 80% of the natural gas used in Indian River County annually, offsetting fossil based natural gas demand within the local community.
