Julia Keenan joins Alzheimer & Parkinson Association of Indian River County as Director of Development

The Alzheimer & Parkinson Association of Indian River County announced Julia Keenan as its new Director of Development. In this critical role, Keenan will be responsible for fostering donor relationships with individuals, corporations, and foundations, as well as overseeing all aspects of the organization’s fundraising and development efforts. Her responsibilities will include planned giving, development staffing, managing various campaigns and stewardship programs, and marketing.

Keenan brings over 25 years of expertise in development and management to this position. Her impressive background includes extensive experience in fund development, donor relations, event management, strategic planning, and community development.

Prior to joining the Alzheimer & Parkinson Association of Indian River County, Keenan held several impactful leadership roles in the community, including Interim Executive Director and Senior Director of Development at McKee Botanical Garden, Senior Director of Development for the Indian River State College Foundation, and Director of Development for the Indian River Medical Center Foundation. Additionally, she served as Executive Director of the Homeless Family Center (now Hope for Families) and Program Director at the Samaritan Center.

Throughout her career, Keenan has made a significant impact in areas such as homelessness, healthcare, education, and arts and culture. Her contributions to the community have been recognized through various honors, including the United Way of Indian River County’s 2009 Agency Excellence Award and a nomination for the Junior League of Indian River County’s 2013 Women of the Year Award for Civic Non-Profit Leader.

Keenan joined the Alzheimer & Parkinson Association of Indian River County team in December and is excited to raise vital funds to support individuals and families affected by memory and movement disorders. She is also deeply committed to the local community, serving as a Board Member for the United Way of Indian River County and the Planned Giving Council of Indian River County.

Keenan’s professional affiliations include membership in the Association for Fundraising Professionals, where she previously served on the Board of Directors and chaired National Philanthropy Day. She was also a member of the Treasure Coast Homeless Services Council from 2005 to 2010.

A graduate of the Indian River Chamber of Commerce Leadership Training program in 2006, Keenan earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania and her Major Gifts Track Certification from the University of Wisconsin School of Business—Association for Healthcare in Philanthropy.
