John Simon performs at The Emerson Center
The Emerson Center will present producer, composer, pianist and songwriter John Simon in concert at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, bringing the acclaimed musician back by popular demand for an afternoon of music and storytelling. Simon, one of the most influential record producers of the 1960s and beyond, is known for his work with The Band, Janis Joplin, Leonard Cohen, Blood, Sweat & Tears and Simon & Garfunkel. His career also includes composing for film and Broadway, releasing seven albums of original music and performing throughout the United States and abroad.
The performance will feature Simon’s piano-driven songs and stories from his career in music, combining musicianship, humor and firsthand reflections on recordings that have shaped popular music over the past six decades.
Critics have praised Simon’s originality and talent. Jon Pareles of The New York Times described his songs as “clever, articulate … an eccentric, genial intelligence,” while Rex Reed called him “unique, original, fresh and funny … a superb, witty lyricist.”
