Hidden Faces entertained and educated a full house
The Heritage Center was filled to the brim when the community showed up to the annual “Hidden Faces” event presented by The Source on Thursday evening, October 3. A combination of delicious food and drink, entertaining music and the mingling with good friends was enjoyed by all attendees. But, most importantly, the event was designed to offer a moving, and uplifting observation of what is happening “Behind the Scenes at The Source.” And this event proved to be all that and more. The Source works closely with the most vulnerable of individuals residing in our community…namely the needy and the homeless in Indian River County. They were there to tell their stories, help cater and serve the culinary treats and receive congrats and applause once the informative program and video presentations concluded.
The event demonstrated what The Source does and the people they help…day after day while presenting the compelling program featuring images of the human side of homelessness in our community through video and in-person commentary. The décor emphasizing their color scheme of red, black and white, also portrayed unique and meaningful photography of homeless members that hung from the rafters throughout the venue courtesy of Charles Sinclair. The popularity of this event has made it one of their three yearly signature events for the non-profit.
The award-winning food, cooked by The Source’s Dignity Catering program and served by students of their Dining with Dignity Culinary Training Program was provided during a pre-program cocktail reception followed by a buffet-style sit-down dinner enjoyed while watching the program. Attendees registered to win prizes, took home a parting gift and received tours on their newest Dignity Bus #5 parked right in front of The Heritage Center.
While homelessness is prevalent throughout the nation, this event offered insight on how The Source is tackling this issue in our community. The informative program also introduced important supporters in the community who work closely with the organization and spoke their experiences to the audience; names like Dr. Adam Jones, Premiere Dental/ Dignity Smiles, Judge Nicole Menz/19th Judicial circuit and the Vero Beach City Mayor John Cotugno. The Hidden Faces members of 2024 were portrayed in a video that ended in a personal introduction to thundering applause. Attendees walked away from the evening with more awareness on the issue of homelessness and proud to learn just how it is being eradicated right here in Indian River County.
