Held in Balance at Heathcote: how do they do that?
A gravity-defying summer exhibit comes to life at Heathcote Botanical Gardens as Held in Balance: A Celebration of Form, Focus, and Nature by ZOTO opens June 27. Prepare to be captivated by the seemingly impossible. Held in Balance: A Celebration of Form, Focus, and Nature by renowned stone balancer ZOTO opens June 27 at Heathcote Botanical Gardens—a one-of-a-kind art exhibition where gravity becomes the medium and nature the canvas.
Running through July 25, this immersive showcase invites visitors to explore the awe-inspiring world of stone balancing, where delicate arrangements of natural stones defy logic and expectation, inspiring reflection, curiosity, and serenity. Each installation by ZOTO offers a fleeting glimpse into the harmony that can be found between chaos and control, stillness and motion, permanence and impermanence.
“Stone balancing predates even cave paintings as a form of expression,” says ZOTO. “It taps into something primal. When you witness something that seems impossible—yet it’s right in front of you—your perception shifts. That’s when the magic happens.”
More than a visual experience, Held in Balance is a meditative journey through the lush pathways of Heathcote’s treasured gardens. As visitors wander among these natural sculptures, they’re invited to pause, breathe, and contemplate their own inner equilibrium amidst today’s fast-paced world.
To mark the opening of the exhibit, guests are invited to “On the Rocks”—an intimate meet and greet reception with ZOTO on Sunday, June 29 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Enjoy live demonstrations, lite morning fare, and the chance to speak directly with the artist about his techniques and inspirations. Tickets are $30 per person or $50 per couple and are expected to sell quickly.
“This exhibit is more than just art—it’s an invitation to connect with the natural world and ourselves in a deeper way,” says the team at Heathcote. “It perfectly aligns with our mission to inspire through beauty, balance, and environmental awareness.”
Now celebrating 39 years as a cornerstone of environmental education and botanical preservation, Heathcote Botanical Gardens continues to enrich the Fort Pierce community with meaningful, nature-centered experiences for all ages.
