Dyer Difference is all about teamwork and trust

It’s no secret that there is a link between sports and success, and you don’t have to be the next Michael Jordan or Steph Curry to recognize the gains achieved by participating in sports. Youth in sports see increased levels of grit, emotional regulation, and discipline, which often translate into higher academic achievement and stronger professional leadership skills, which is precisely why the City of Fellsmere is creating a Youth Sports Program, starting with soccer and baseball, and adding basketball, volleyball, and flag football as the program matures. But a program like this, especially one that aims to work with more than 200 local youth, is an ambitious undertaking, not only in the form of time and energy but also financially and emotionally. To help encourage this noble endeavor and assist the kids in getting off on the right foot, the Dyer Difference Award in Indian River County for February chose to recognize the efforts of the City of Fellsmere Youth Sports Program with a check to help purchase the gear to get the youth out on the fields and working towards a future of focus, fun, friendship, and fulfillment. We’ll be in the crowd cheering them on now, and all through their lives, too.

It’s as important to learn teamwork off the field as it is on it, so the folks at Dyer Mazda chose to focus indoors this month. Magnolia Learning Academy in Indian River County is a non-profit enrichment center that empowers students with and without special needs through individualized holistic education and support to build academic, social, and life skills and fill a gap often left by busy public schools. Through special therapies, inclusion, and support for families, students find success and a path to engage in their communities. The award will help assist Magnolia’s students to participate in community outings to develop independence, social, and life skills and expand their horizons and their dreams for a successful future.

In St. Lucie County, the Dyer Difference Award Committee chose to focus on teamwork, too – the kind of teamwork that truly has no limits.  Men At Arms Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club (LEMC) was founded on April 2, 2016, in honor of St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Deputy Sergeant Gary Morales, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty. In 2023, Men at Arms LEMC recognized the critical importance of focusing on the mental and emotional-health issues specifically facing law-enforcement officers and the stigma surrounding seeking assistance and chose to address this issue as its main goal. Today, Men at Arms’ charitable efforts focus on creating a future where officers are empowered to take care of their mental health, leading to stronger, safer, and more trusting relationships between law enforcement and the public.

The Dyer Difference Award is all about celebrating the beauty and kindness in our midst. For the Dyer family and the members of the Dyer staff, the award and the typical $6,000 in donations made monthly between the St. Lucie and Indian River Counties are all about helping to make a positive difference in the community. This month’s additional $3,000 award helps the community even more, and it wouldn’t be possible without the loyalty of Dyer’s customers who support their community just as strongly as they do in their Dyer family of dealerships. For the recipients, it’s an acknowledgement of their tireless efforts to do the same and a much-needed financial boost to help further their missions.
