Dyer Difference Award recognizes little birthdays and big moments

It is believed that approximately 75 percent of the population experiences glossophobia, or fear of public speaking. That translates to more than 200 million worldwide, and sometimes that fear can limit individuals, especially youth, from doing and becoming all they want to be. The pros at StageFright Academy understand that fear, and their goal is to help give young people of the Treasure Coast a safe and inclusive space to create by cultivating an environment that encourages kindness, dedication, and an approach to theatre that helps to shape students into open-minded, professional creatives. While they’re at it, this performance-based studio hosts training programs, full-blown theatrical productions, a travel team, and a College Preparedness Program that is completely free to students. And while helping students navigate the difficulties of academics and life through drama and theatre, they also learn confidence, teamwork, independence, responsibility, and the ability to achieve and succeed beyond their wildest dreams. What a way to prepare for the mega-theatrical production that is life! This month’s Dyer Difference Award will provide scholarships and further in-depth training for low-income students who would have not had access otherwise.

In Indian River County, it’s all about cake, ice cream, and the excitement of a birthday party, which may not seem like a big deal if you’re over a certain age, but if you can remember what a huge thing your birthday was when you were a child, then you can understand just how important the mission of Little Birthday Angels really is on the Treasure Coast. Not having a place to call home is already hard enough, but imagine being a child and not having a place to call home on your birthday, or a single cupcake, balloon, or gift to make the day feel like it is special for you in any way? Little Birthday Angels brings birthday joy to homeless children in Indian River, St. Lucie and Martin counties by partner with local shelters, schools and outreach programs to deliver birthday bags filled with gifts, essential items, and party supplies, ensuring every child feels loved, valued, and celebrated on their special day. The October Dyer Difference Award in Indian River County celebrates right along with those Little Birthday Angels recognizing the importance of birthdays and celebrating them as special, no matter what our circumstances.

The Dyer Difference Award is all about celebrating the beauty and kindness in our midst. For the Dyer family and the members of the Dyer staff, the award and the $6,000 in contributions made monthly between the St. Lucie and Indian River Counties are all about helping to make a positive difference in the community. For the recipients, it’s an acknowledgement of their tireless efforts to do the same and a much-needed financial boost to help further their missions.
