Cleveland Clinic funds Meals on Wheels

Senior Resource Association said Cleveland Clinic committed $120,000 a year for five years, or $600,000 total, to support its Meals on Wheels program for older adults in Indian River County.

The nonprofit said the funding will help provide 9,375 home-delivered meals this year to seniors who are homebound, disabled or managing complex health conditions.

SRA said 92% of recipients are able to remain living at home because of the program, and 90% report improved dietary health.

SRA said it currently serves 355 residents and has a waitlist of 502, with 147 people still not receiving meals. The list grows by about 25 seniors a month.

“This long-term support will help us reach more older adults who are waiting for meals,” said Karen Deigl, SRA president and CEO.

Nearly 250 volunteers deliver more than 2,700 meals a week and provide wellness checks for recipients, the organization said.
