Board riders and barkers benefit from Dyer Difference Award

Members of the Treasure Coast Board Riders Club are on a mission to share the joy of surfing with members of the community. For them, there is nothing quite like the feel of the salt spray and the power of the Atlantic’s mighty waves as they search for that perfect curl that will bring them back to shore riding high. But these surf enthusiasts don’t want to keep the waves to themselves. Instead, through scholarships surf lessons, caring for the ocean through beach cleanups, and educating the community on ocean safety, the Treasure Coast Board Riders are sharing their love of the sport and the beauty of the paradise in which they live with others. Since their inception here in 2021, the Treasure Coast Board Rider Club has seen great expansion in its membership, and members have won a number of regional and state championships and have been selected for the SA Surfing Development Team. Best of all, the group is always recruiting new members, whether they are serious rippers or just paddle-curious novices. This month’s Dyer Difference Award recognizes the work the group has done in growing, caring for the environment, and sharing its enthusiasm for all things board-related with others.

In St. Lucie County, the Humane Society is going through its own growing pains, and the Dyer Difference Award will be helping the dogs and cats who reside there, however briefly, to be a bit less crowded and more comfortable as they await their fur-ever families. The organization, which offers adoption, education, a pet pantry, dog training, a lost and found program, and loads of love, is all about helping humans and animals find unconditional love. They’re quick to remind the community that, while saving one pet won’t save the world, it sure will change the world forever for that one pet. And while waiting to be discovered by the human that will change their lives through rescue, it’s nice to know that the animals at the Humane Society of St. Lucie have a comfortable, safe, and friendly environment to call a temporary home.

The Dyer Difference Award is all about celebrating the beauty and kindness in our midst. For the Dyer family and the members of the Dyer staff, the award and the $6,000 in donations made monthly between the St. Lucie and Indian River Counties are all about helping to make a positive difference in the community. For the recipients, it’s an acknowledgement of their tireless efforts to do the same and a much-needed financial boost to help further their missions.
