As a teenager, Tom’s fondness for the music of John Denver brought him to pick up the guitar and follow in the footsteps of his “mentor”. By his early 20’s, he was well on his way, becoming a member of The New Christy Minstrels, touring the world with the group that John Denver worked with years earlier. Soon, Tom’s original songs became a regular part of the group’s performances. After leaving The New Christy Minstrels, Tom moved to Nashville, where he began a successful career as a songwriter.

“MusicWorks has partnered with the Space Coast Symphony on many occasions, always with great success.  I have wanted to find another opportunity to bring them back to The Emerson Center and when I saw the video of Tom I knew this was the right one” said Stacey Young, President of MusicWorks.  “MusicWorks’ mission has always been to give back to the community by supporting non-profit organizations and I’m thrilled to be able to present this benefit for Aaron and his talented group of musicians.”

Aaron Collins is recognized as one of the most electric and compelling conductors in America. He will lead the SCSO in this unique partnership bringing the songs of John Denver to life.

According to Collins, “In any SCSO season, the audience can expect the best of what makes the SCSO a unique force in our community: the organization’s tradition of innovative programming, high-quality dynamic symphonic performances, active community engagement and commitment to arts education. When Stacey Young asked us to come on board to perform with the talent of Tom Becker as a fundraiser for our non-profit, it was an easy answer…absolutely!”The audience will enjoy Tom bringing back the foot-stomping fun of “Thank God, I’m a Country Boy”, the tenderness of “Annie’s Song”, and the sweeping grandeur of “Eagle and the Hawk” in an uplifting and powerful tribute to one of America’s most beloved singer/songwriters. John Denver’s universal themes of home, family, love and nature, along with Tom’s personal anecdotes and observations from his career in folk music create a warm, humorous and uplifting experience. Back Home Again offers the perfect blend of well-known and lesser-known Denver songs that are sure to please both new and long-time fans. The performance also includes a few Denver-inspired original songs including, “Sailor”, selected by the US Navy as the Official Commemorative Song for the US Navy Memorial in Washington, DC as well as a few New Christy Minstrels hits like “This Land is Your Land” and “Today”.

The Emerson Center is conveniently located on the campus of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Vero Beach, 1590 27th Avenue, on the SE corner of 16th Street and 27th Avenue. An elevator to the 2nd floor balcony is available as well as complimentary listening devices from the Emerson Center office.
