VBMA hosts free Frank Lloyd Wright Architecture lecture
Vero Beach Museum of Art will host historian, author and artist Wayne Wood for Frank Lloyd Wright and His Influence on Florida Architecture at 3 p.m. Sat., Sept. 12, as part of the Florida Talks lecture series presented by Florida Humanities. The free public program is the second Florida Talks lecture hosted by the museum this summer and will explore Wright’s influence on Florida architecture, including the lesser-known connections between the architect’s work and the state’s architectural history.
Although much of Wright’s work was built in the Midwest, the lecture will examine his presence in Florida and the role it played in shaping a notable chapter of the state’s design legacy.
Wood, known as the “undisputed godfather of preservation in Jacksonville,” has written 20 books on Northeast Florida, including Jacksonville’s Architectural Heritage: Landmarks for the Future. He is an honorary member of the American Institute of Architects and serves on the board of the Florida Foundation for Architecture.
Admission to the lecture and the museum’s exhibitions is free as part of VBMA’s Second Saturdays programming. Preregistration is required for the lecture. For more information or to register, visit vbmuseum.org.
