Post Insurance family discovers "Revolutionary roots"

As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, the Post family of Post Insurance has discovered a direct ancestor who served in the American Revolution, adding a personal chapter to the family-owned agency’s long history of community service and local business leadership.

Kathy Post, second-generation owner of Post Insurance, and her sister, Becky Post, vice president of business operations, learned of the family connection after their mother, local Realtor L.M. “Butch” Post, spent months researching the family genealogy. Her research identified Benjamin Martin, a direct ancestor who enlisted in the Continental Army in Virginia in 1777.

All three women recently were admitted to the Daughters of the American Revolution, a national organization dedicated to historic preservation, education and patriotism.

“This discovery is incredibly special,” Butch Post said. “Learning we have a direct connection to a man who volunteered and sacrificed to fight for our nation’s independence is a powerful and deeply personal piece of history we never knew.”

Kathy Post said the discovery resonates with the values the family seeks to reflect through its business and community involvement. “As we mark our nation’s 250th anniversary, we’re reminded that our strength comes from everyday people willing to serve something greater than themselves,” she said. “That’s what we strive to embody today as a family and as a local business at Post Insurance.”

The Post family has been active in Port St. Lucie since the 1960s and helped establish community groups, including youth sports and scouting programs. That commitment to service and resilience led to the founding of Post Insurance in 1979. Today, multiple generations of the family remain involved in nonprofit and civic organizations, including the Port St. Lucie Historical Society.

Becky Post said the family’s newly documented Revolutionary War connection has made this year’s anniversary especially meaningful. She said she hopes the story encourages others to explore their own family histories and reflect on the sacrifices that made today’s opportunities possible.
