Taste Florida’s foodways for 250th 

Celebrate America250 and sample a taste of Florida food history Saturday, June 13 at 2 pm at the St Lucie (Village) School when “Florida Talks” journalist and author Dalia Colon presents Telling Florida Food Stories, sponsored by the Florida Remembered Society through Florida Humanities’ current “Florida Talks” speakers’ series celebrating Florida Reflections: America 250–Everlasting Florida.

Presenter Colon will share an interactive overview of Florida’s history told through the lens of our state foods, and she’ll spark conversations on Florida’s contribution to the American tale and the American table. From indigenous foodways, to the rise and fall of the citrus industry, to modern sustainability efforts, Colon will keep the discussion energized and personalized with audience story sharing, and audio and video clips,

Colon’s program complements the current exhibition at the St. Lucie (Village) School, “Red, White & FOOD” which welcomes all visitors. This local food heritage exhibition is provided through a collaboration with the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum on Main Street and is funded by Florida Humanities with a grant from the Jacarlene Foundation. Other  exhibition sponsors include Neill, Marquis, Osking & Hale, PLLC, and the Florida’s Natural Growers Foundation.

The St. Lucie (Village) School is located at 2501 North Old Dixie Hwy.in St Lucie Village. Admission is free for this program and exhibition. Light “Florida Foods” refreshments will be served. Seating is limited so reserve your place by calling (772) 267-4873.
