VERO BEACH – McKee Botanical Garden is celebrating its 10th Annual Motor Car Exhibition on Saturday, February 9, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. featuring Corvette, America’s Sports Car. McKee Botanical Garden’s annual motor car exhibitions have become a must-see event that draws thousands of car enthusiasts from all over the state of Florida. This event is for one day only, so be sure not to miss it!
The Corvette has become widely known as America’s Sports Car after starring in the early 1960s television show Route 66, and is synonymous with freedom and adventure. The Corvette became both the most successful concept car and most popular sports car in history.
This year, 43 Corvettes, including one from each of the first 20 years of production, will be on display throughout the lush tropical landscape of McKee. Spectators will see different years of Indy 500 pace cars, anniversary editions, and restomods.
Specialty makers’ Corvettes will include a Callaway and an 835 supercharged horsepower Yenko with a seven-speed manual transmission that pushes it to 210+ mph, going 0-60 in 2.8 seconds. Each Corvette in the motor car exhibition is pre-selected to assure the highest quality and greatest variety.
As a special feature, Indian River County’s pioneer Ruth Hallstrom’s 1962 Corvette convertible is being brought by Fred Hamilton of Tampa, Florida and will be on display, which was among the first Corvettes ever in this county. Back in the day, Miss Hallstrom was frequently seen driving on her “speedway”, Old Dixie Highway, at a very fast rate of speed loaded with her chicken eggs to sell at the local Piggly Wiggly. Every weekend, local teenage boys would gather and watch in awe and envy as she passed by in this spectacular automobile with her scarf blowing in the breeze.
Cars are coming from Tampa, Minneola, The Villages, Winter Springs, Groveland, Palm Coast, New Smyrna Beach, Titusville, Merritt Island, Cocoa Beach, Viera, Melbourne, Indiatlantic, Palm Bay, Micco, Oakland Park, Jupiter, Juno Beach, Stuart, Palm City, Port St. Lucie, and Hutchinson Island, in addition to Vero Beach and Sebastian.
The Car Show Committee, includes Rob Hardie, Dick Kesler, Tom Lockwood, Norman Ridgely, Wayne Sandlin, John Schumann, Jr., and Jerry Weick, a group of dedicated car enthusiasts and collectors, who work year-round to bring “the best of the best” automobiles to McKee’s annual motor car exhibition each year.
Enjoy two exhibitions for the price of one! This year, the show is being held in conjunction with Seward Johnson’s Celebrating the Familiar sculpture exhibition which includes his 25 ft. tall monumental bronze statue, Embracing Peace, and features twenty life-scale bronze figures depicting what Seward Johnson refers to as “the beautiful moments of ordinary life.” These extraordinary sculptures celebrate “the emotional and spiritual sustenance and pleasure that nature can provide to help us deal with life’s inevitable struggles.”
Admission is $12 for adults, $11 for seniors (65+), and $8 for children ages 3-12. McKee members and children under 3 are free.
